Hybrid style?

Thanks for the reply. I live in New Orleans. Our landscape is very flat here but our streets are horrible. I was thinking beach cruiser because I figured it would provide a comfortable ride and hopefully the big tires would handle all of the unavoidable potholes better. In truth, I hadn't really thought about a hybrid style bike. It sounds like in my situation, that still may be better both for efficiency and weight. Do you have any suggestions for specific hybrid style bikes? I think a used quality hybrid may be my best bet but there isn't much of a market here for used bikes. I may be forced to buy a new one online or in a local store if I can find one decently priced. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
