Trying to find appropriate cycling shoes was a long ordeal for me and my 12 4E feet! However, Shimano wide series (47) without the insert and Sidi Megas (48) work for me. As an inexpensive alternative, the Forte wide (sold by Performance) in a 47 is the widest and most comfortable shoe I have found. However, I suspect it will not hold up as well as the Sidis for example. (Btw, a very thin sock is a must to get any of these shoes to work for me!)
I too wear the Forte, in a size 47 (13) and they're plenty wide for my 13EEE feet! I've put a lot of long distance miles on them, and they've held up really well.
