According to a local cop who is also a certified bike safety instructor, only red lights to the rear and white to the front are legal in WA state. He also said no one (in our town) is going to give me a ticket for my monkey electric or down low glow (green) lights on a bike. He said the reason is confusion caused by multiple colors (on cars). From my experiments with the down low glow, it would be great to have a very strong red light shining down on to the pavement behind your bike and a white one near the front (in addition to your normal rear and front lights). Then cars know where you are on the road. The blinkies and the white front lights can be confusing for cars when it comes to depth perception especially when it is raining. Next time a car is coming towards you in the dark, notice that you can tell WHERE the car is not by looking at the lights but by seeing the lights reflected off the pavement and other objects.
