If your serious about the "race" part, find some local racers and see who is selling last years technology. A 2 or 3 year old racer's bike will get you more bang-for-the-buck than anything new. AND they will usually have a cart full of cassettes, handlebars, clips, and anything else that Shamino or campy upgrade this year.
Racers have to have the latest and greatest and will sometimes sell their old stuff to get the new.
