You could take an eye-to-eye measurement of the shock (if it is a standard type and not proprietary) and replace it with an air shock, but that's a costly item and generally will not compensate for a poor suspension design.

Personally I'd flip the bike and buy something with a better design, preferably a Virtual Pivot Point.
