My wife and I do a Saturday morning ride 3.5 miles uphill from our house to a Bagel Shop for a cup of coffee a V8 and a bagel before we set out on our longer ride.

The first time we did this we were the only obvious cyclists in the place. Soon 2 friends of ours decided to join us each Saturday.

Now it seems there are a dozen bikes sitting outside the window while we are having our breakfast snack. In every case and on every trip all of the cyclists have a nice chat with each other.

We don't ride together. We don't really know each other. We just chat briefly about how the ride is going. We also obviously look over each other's equipment.

In short. It is just plain pleasant to visit with other cyclists anytime, even strangers.
