I normally eat 2-3 hrs before a race. Eat 1-2 pb and apple/peach/pear butter or straberry jelly on sandwich thins. And a glass of chocolate milk or OJ/whatever juice I have. I've had raisin bran instead of the sandwiches but I'd rather have a small bowl of raisin bran/granola and 1 pb and whatever sandwich.

If the race is an hour long and a hard race, I'll pop a gel before the race. If I can't eat enough before the race, I'll eat a clif bar on the drive to the race.

I need to eat more than the next guy on rides/races though. I lose energy really fast if I don't eat enough. I can get away with eating a little more than necessary if I eat 2-3 hrs before the race.
