Gary Fischer supercaliber or GF Tassajara

Today I was browsing my LBS for a new mountain bike and I came in originally looking for a GF Tassajara, Trek 6500, and a Specialized Rockhopper. As i was looking around I ended up running into a 08 GF SuperCaliber for $1600, and I ended up putting it on hold until the end of the week just in case i wanted to jump on the deal. How good of a steal is the supercaliber at that price? im just thinking of ditching the supercaliber and going with the Tassajara intested because the supercaliber might be "too much bike" for me.

I guess another reason why I am indecisive about the SuperCaliber is that I am not very knowledgeable with components and I am unaware of the huge discount that was presented to me. Here are the specs of the SuperCaliber.

Frame USA made: aluminum front w/ Carbon Fiber Rear, Genesis Geometry
Fork Fox Float RL, 100mm-travel w/lockout
Rear Shock Fox RP2 float with pro pedal
Rims/Wheels Bontrager Race Disc (Tubeless compatible)
Hubs See Rims/Wheels
Spokes See Rims/Wheels
Tires Bontrager Jones Dry X Tubeless Ready
Crankset Shimano LX
Chainwheel 44/32/22
Front Derailleur Shimano Deore LX
Rear Derailleur Shimano Deore XT
Shifters Shimano Deore LX
Handlebars Bontrager Race OS Riser
Tape/Grips Bontrager Race Lite
Stem Bontrager Race
Brake Levers Avid Juicy 5
Brakes Avid Juicy 5 hydraulic-disc
Saddle Bontrager Race Lux
Seat Post Bontrager Race X Lite Carbon

I've only ridden trails a couple of times and I would like to learn more on how to ride them, would going FS right off the bat be a bad decision?
