Levers touching top tube

Hello all,

One of my MTB (Lapierre) has the shifters touching the top tube when the handlebar is steered all the way to the right or to the left. While this is not an issue as far as riding is concerned, I have seen numerous Lapierre with dented top tubes following a crash when the levers and/or shifters hit the top tube.

Do your bikes also have this 'problem'?
Anyone has any hint to share to prevent such damage? (I want neither a riser bar or a ridiculous stack of spacers).

Thanks in advance.
