I think that you really need to strip off all the extra knick knacks and weigh your bike if you are interested in making anykind of meaningful comparison. 40 pounds sounds pretty heavy to me, but I'm wondering how much the "extras" are adding.

Bicycling is an interesting past time in that lots of folks spend several hundred additional dollars to buy a bike that weighs a pound or two less. Then they add on knick knacks and such to bring the bike back up to what the cheaper bike weighed.
