They had a recall back in 2005 on their chargers, seems they like to catch fire.
Now my crystalyte 36V 3 amp charger bought the farm the first month of use, cheap Chinese dodo. I was able to fix mine and make it more beefy and less prone to failure. See my crytalyte charger mod in this forum here:

If you got one I'd see if there is a recall on it. If no recall do some upgrading to it.
If I remember rightly my crystalyte 36v 3 amp charger goes for around $30. I've carried it with me a couple of times so I could make the round trip on electric power.
