Honestly? I can totally believe it. I changed BAR TAPE and it threw off my fit, the new tape was more comfy so I found I was tending to put my hands more on the bars themselves, and not on the hoods.

I'm sure it'll all come together for you. Ironically enough, I find that when I use barends, and now my new wider bars, my shoulder issues go away completely. Since putting on the 48cm Nitto Noodles, this week I've done some rather long rides - not a one has bothered my shoulders. You might try using the barends a bit more and see how that helps!
