There's nothing wrong with Octalink. That's why everyone else copied it (not quite identical and called ISIS). The BB cartridges are easy to install, need no adjustment, are maintenance free, and cheap. I'd choose one over square taper.

Whether you bought the right crank for your bike is a completely different issue, though. And for that question we'll need lots more info.
