Putting a new chain on a worn cassette will do that. Does it skip on all chainrings? If so, it's time to replace the cassette. Either that, or put the old chain back on. 1500 miles isn't a lot on a chain with minimal off road use, assuming it's been kept clean and properly lubricated.
I measured it (over 24 links) and it was almost 1/16 over.
Skips mainly on the smaller cog gears (yep I use them the most)
I always took care of the chain.

I am 210lbs and a avid weight lifter squating over 400lbs. Not sure if that would cause premature stretch.
