Any of the old spindles were asymmetrical by ~2mm or so. The VO spindles are symmetrical which means you'd need to add ~2mm to the overall length of your old spindle. I.E. if your old spindle was 114 you'd need a 116 VO BB. Your crankset would've had approximately the same spindle length as any of the Shimanos from that same era.
