I'd see if you could pick up a set of used wheels off of Craigslist. Although, you could get a set of cheap, new wheels from Niagara Cycles for about $80.00 shipped.

They have single walled rims and chrome plated spokes. Cheap, but reliable. Here they are on my Peugeot:







They needed to be trued right out of the box, but have been solid ever since.
