As popular as the route seems to be, I assumed that cars there would be used to seeing bikes out there. It also helps that it's a pretty straight road with no blind spots so you know cars -should- see you ahead. I also like the fact that there is some warning signage out there as well. What is the speed limit there? 35? 45?
