Some cranks have chainrings that can work for both 9 and 10 - FSA for example. The shifters tell the ders how far to travel, so it's not necessary to change the ders.

It's kinda nice having bikes with different setups. I was all about having the same drivetrain on all the bikes for a long time - and that was good for a lot of reasons. But now, I like having 3 completely different setups - Ultegra 9 and 10 and Campy 10. Only downside is that parts aren't as interchangeable as before.
