When stores do that, they emphasize the savings, not the jacked up price later. You won't ever see a store saying "Buy it today, or otherwise we'll double the price tomorrow!" Instead they say "50% off, today only!"
They also don't start with a low price, they start with the high price, sell all they can, then drop the price if the items aren't moving like they want.
