I think the answer depends entirely on what direction the logo on your hub shell goes. Mount the wheel so that the logo is right side up when read from the rear of the bike. Now mount the tire so that the label is on the drive side when the wheel is set up like this. The tread is now in the correct direction, and it will continue to be correct when the wheel is flipped. This is the only important standard for tread direction.
