Ok, some more digging and it turns out that Colnago DID make mtn bikes in the mid-late 80's. 6-speed Deore grouppo Some REALLY FUGLY paint schemes for Colnago though.
So, apparently the one on fleabay IS a mtn bike and not a cross-bike. And, I was right. According to one BB thread I found the thing weighs a ton and a half. Here's a couple of vintage pics. Note the undermount rear brake on the first one. Typical 87-88 setup while the second pic has canti's frt & rear showing it to be a later model (89/90 or later.)
