Question for amputees

I am a left BK. I get around alright. My only problem is how much my stump sweats. When I am very active I sweat a lot. When I sweat a lot my liner starts to slip. Right now I am wearing a vacuum system. I have had the same results with the pin system. I want to try a mini triathlon this June but am worried about the running part and the sweating. I have gone as far having my Dr. write me a Rx for prescription strength anit-perspirent that I use on my stump and that seems to work if I use it everyday, the problem is I don't like using it everyday due to how hard it is on my skin.

I guess my question is what if anything are you other amputees using to prevent excessive sweating on your residual limb? When i take my liner off i can actually dump the sweat out there is that much in there. (I have heard that eventually you will stop sweating but my amputation was 2008 and I haven't yet) Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
Mark

I have the same issue with mine. Honestly, I just carry around a towel with me on hot days and take the time to stop and dry my leg and liner off every now and again. It is all I can do. Like you, the antiperspirants caused my skin to break out.

Thank you for the reply. That is pretty much what I have been doing. I was just hoping that there was a better way out there. Thank you again.

No problem.
What and how are you riding? Did you have to make any special adjustments to be able to ride?

I tried to ride a regular bike but the back of my prosthesis would cut into the back of my leg. I ended up getting a recumbent an "ice t" which i really enjoy.

Yup, that was an issue for me as well. I ended up modifying the back on one of my older sockets for riding with a lower trimline. Another idea I have seen some posters here use is to make a "cleat foot" eliminating the foot with a cleat on the end of the pylon and therefore reducing the amount of travel of your knee in that direction. I am actually looking into getting a recumbent trike as a next bike.
