Fast cold wind in the face is causing me to slow down. Facemask???
Hi everyone,
This is my second thread here, my last one had a great response. (thank you all) I hope I am not repeating this topic here. When I ride to uni each day I spend about 20 minutes going parallel to Brisbane river, the wind I face cycling there is consistently much more frequent, faster and colder than most other places, if I ride to fast here, breathing in the cold wind can cause me to become sick, hence I have had to slow my pace down quite significantly. I do see many other pro and more experiences riders along here that do not wear a facemask or anything like that, and there is rarely a group of 2 or more riders together. Does anyone know if there is any known way in which this problem has been resolved previously? The only way I can think of to solve it besides riding behind a fellow cyclist, is to wear a facemask of some sort. Sometimes the wind can really hurt my ears to, the wind causes me to cut back on riding there and to slow down alot otherwise I just get to sick!! Any ideas and responses are welcome and appreciated. Thanks everyone. |
There's various facemasks for winter sports and motorcyclists. Motorcycle stores should be able sell you a windproof one that covers up to your nose and ears. For lighter protection, get a Buff scarf (aka tube scarf) from outdoor or motorcycle store.
I know what you are talking about, it can be very uncomfortable and I actually once got a proper frostbite on my ear for riding a bike during the winter as a kid. Not fun having your other ear swollen twice the size for a week! :D If you want a "breath warmer", Psolar masks are one of the most known brands. They are designed for winter sports and work the best around freezing temps, though. |
Great thanks for the advice proileri!!:)
It must be a much more common thing to deal with in Finland than in Australia I reckon, I have never really ever seen a biker wear any facial protection before when riding, but now I know where to get protection, thanks very much. Frostbite sounds really nasty, you must have been one tough/determines rider as a kid!! cheers. |
