Cane Holder
I'm recovering from surgery on my right leg and getting ready for surgery on my left ankle. I do good on my stationary bike but need a cane to walk. I want to rig up a cane holder for my street bike which has a rack. I'm thinking maybe some kind of clips that the cane will snap into. That way the cane will be available to me when I have to dismount. The cane can't stick up so high that it impairs mounting and dismounting. Any ideas?

Keep the suggestions coming please
I can ride but walk with difficulty, so I can't get far off my bike if I decide to stop anywhere. I have a folder cane that I can attach to the rear carrier. It lays flat and I tightly bungee it to the carrier with little or no overhangs or outcroppings. If you have a better suggestion for clamping, please post. My folder cane (Harbor Freight $8 Go figure!) is not as good as my regular one, but does work.

You can improvise something using broom clips held on with hose clamps or similar. However before going out be sure that you have enough leg strength on both sides to hold yourself up when you stop. Even if you plan to stop with the good leg down, you never know when you'll need to stop using the other leg.

Kind of the same way I can throw the cane in a shopping cart, I can use the bike to steady myself should I want to walk over to a drinking fountain, etc. Stores and bathrooms are slightly more problematic, hence the Velcro straps and monopod.

I have several folding canes from HF, Aldi, etc., and they are quality, believe it or not.
The fold and fit anywhere.

I use a piece of PVC pipe s a cane holder, strapped to the backrest on my recumbent trike with zipties, if that helps. It also does a great job of holding a fishing pole, as well.

i was just playing with the idea for a bike for my brother, but i found a metal cane. like the alloy ones but made out of steel. kind of heavy, but being steel i was able to weld a hook to it to hook a bike rack, then i welded a clothes line like eye hook to the bike i was making to keep it from moving around too much at the bottom.
truthfully it didn't work too well, but i think i know now some kind of locking clip at the top, with a snap in clip of some kind at the bottom (so you don't have to bend down much to get the cane out) would have worked better.

I think you'd look good with a good *** sheath strapped to the bike.
And, if you ever retire the cane, you can still put it to use!!!

I use a generic folding cane sometimes when I am off the bike. I had used 1 velcro strap and 2 bungee cords to secure this to the rack on the back of my road bike, or had put my rack trunk on, and had the cane mostly inside rack trunk, with some of it sticking out the zippered compartment. When my husband and I bike together, he sometimes put my cane in his rack trunk.
He bought me a seatpost-mounted rack with a trunk bag TopeakŪ Cycling Accessories ? Products - RX TrunkBag EX and I can put my folding cane inside the elastic strap on the top.

Our LBS has handle bar mounts for MTB's used as transport on Elk Hunts in the woods, so cane would go across the handlebars
