Good advice so far. Weird, a one-way bike lane, complete with directional arrow to remind bikes to go with traffic. How did they expect bikes to make the return trip?

How about a detour? NW on Steck to Adirondack Trail, then you can cross at the intersection and take the bike lane south on Spicewood Springs to your destination. Is that about a mile longer? It looks like it could be hilly though, can you climb on your fixie?

Steck even shows up as a bike trail (dark green) when the map's "bicycling" option is turned on. It's interesting that the bike lane doesn't show in green.

Your google map link.

My goal is to start riding to dedicate fridays to riding to work, and maybe more often depending on how things go. Ideally i'd like the idea of riding every day, but i want to eventually build up to that.
Perhaps the culture where you are is different than where I have lived, but if I were going to start bike commuting by choosing only one day per week, Friday would definitely be my last choice. I find that motorists are generally more aggressive (or just less nice) and more plentiful on Friday than any other day. Perhaps you should consider starting on Wednesday for you once a week beginning. That leaves you a pair of recovery days in the event that you enjoy riding so much you start doing it on weekends.

Not weird. They (likely) didn't re-engineer (which would be expensive) at all but just made the lanes narrower. (The lane on the side without the bike lane is rather narrow.

The question you need to ask is whether having one lane is better than having none.

Looking at the Google maps, it is hard to tell what the ultimate goal for the area is.

On the north side of the road (right in map above), there appears to be a MUP that is being built, although perhaps the distinction between MUP and sidewalk is a bit ambiguous, as a few blocks away it looks more like an ordinary sidewalk.

They wanted them to leave town and not come back.

If I understand the Google map, and the traffic wasn't too bad, I might in the OP's place dip into the driveway across the street, realign the bike and cross when clear.

Don't know where you live but you might want to get some one-on-one instruction in streetsmarts by finding out if there's a qualified instructor near you on Ride Smart | League of American Bicyclists

Not sure it's a MUP (seems more appropriate for walking). Whatever it is, it's clearly designed for leisure/recreation.

That path or a bike lane is relevant to the OP's problem of crossing the street.

Here is the spot, I need to turn left into the two little buildings.

it might not seem like a busy street, but during rush hours its a mess of cars from people cutting through the residential areas trying to cut traffic on the high ways. ( to the point that in a car to make that turn in you may have to wait quite a bit for a clearing in traffic )

But when I ride to work i'm hoping to leave my house around 7 to help beat traffic.
Am I correct that you are turning into the dirt parking area? If so I'd go with a 2 way plan. If the breaks happen merge into traffic and turn left into whatever part of the lot is available. That means never even slowing much.

If you do not see the chance for that turn right onto one of the parking areas on the other side and then cross as a vehicle when possible. This second is assuming yuo have become decent at mounting and starting, e.g. riding across will be faster than walking across. If not then crossing as a pedestrian is better.
