Gee... watch out for curbs...
Kerry breaks leg in bike crash; ends overseas trip early
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry broke his leg in a bicycle crash Sunday, apparently after hitting a curb... Maybe the dude needs to up the situational awareness, eh? |
So much for that photo op!

Didn't he also crash while drinking water and trying to cross RR tracks? Maybe the dude needs to up the situational awareness, eh? |
Good on him for still riding at 71. Accidents happen to everyone.

Did you reverse the halves of that 5-letter word; with the 3 periods in-between?
|
cale knew that Ronnie Reagan was a cowboy/actor; a different form of 'riding.'

I like the pluck of a man who is in his seventies riding fast enough to break his femur (ouch!). I hope to be riding that hard at that age (not so far away), but hopefully I can continue to keep the rubber side down.

USATODAY.com - Kerry takes a spill from bike But according to Kerry, he does not fall, it is always something else at fault. snopes.com: John Kerry Swears Each of these incidents were during times of high press interest. So it is reasonable to wonder how often he crashes or falls when the press is not around. Of note, during both of the published bicycle crashes, the Secret Service had closed the roads to everyone except the Kerry escort. Which means he had the entire road with no cars to worry about and still crashed on sand or running into the curb. Since the one article mentioned Bush's bad words against a reporter, I will add that at least when Bush crashed when doing hard mountain bike riding, he laughed, brushed himself off and got back riding. Bush also did not blame his spill from a Segway on the secret service. Kerry on the other hand, jumped into the one secret service SUV in 2004 and had the secret service take the bicycle to the shop in another SUV. |

No, it ISN'T reasonable to wonder how often he crashes or falls when the press is not around. However, it IS a little wierd to continue obsessing about John Kerry more than 10 years after he ran for President.
It's very cool to have 70-year old Secretary of State that rides a road bike. But if you are the type that believed the Swiftboat nonsense, then I understand your ongoing "concerns". |

My posting to Kerry's first crash was to correct the thread on how he actually crashed, vice what the OP remembered. Sad you missed the part where he bad mouths the secret service agent that would put his life in danger to save Kerry's. How do you run into the curb when the entire road is closed for you? |
**** happens

His 2004 crash was blamed on a patch of sand, and he was only 60 then.

At least you do not force an entire bike shop to close down in the middle of a ride, just to get a Derailleur adjusted. I bet (actually I know) you can even do that yourself on the road.
If I brought my motorcycle to a bicycle shop and asked to have the derailleur fixed, I suspect I'd have larger problems. |
