Truly a tragic event.

Police say they do not believe alcohol, distraction, speed or drugs were a factor in the crash.
The only thing left is "intent".

or crappy auto-centric road design? Signals, and painted stripes are little protection for vehicles and drivers, much less vulnerable road users ( especially children) . Looking at the Google street view, we see the prototypical 4 lane with a center turn lane configuration with wide sight lines and little to suggest that you can't do 100 mph through here. Apparently its near Kitty Hawk NC so flying probably seems appropriate.

From what I heard on tonight's news, the driver was blinded by late afternoon setting sun

Assuming the report is correct this should read, "the driver was blinded by late afternoon setting sun and was too selfish/stupid to slow down/stop until his vision recovered".

Dont tell me that a young girl is dead because the irresponsible driver was too stupid as to not use her sun visor.

If the sun is low enough in the sky, say barely above the horizon, a sun visor is of no use. That is when you should pull over and stop, although few motorists do.

Are you all saying that it isn't my God-given right to driveat least the speed limit at all times?

Stopping is NEVER an option. If I can't wait 5 seconds to make a safe pass, what makes you think I'll wait 5 minutes to be able to actually see the road in front of me?
