WTF, cyclist threw grenade at british embassy in Manhattan?

What the hell, I just heard on the news that NYPD was looking for a cyclist who was caught on security cameras lobbing the grenades at the british embassy last week. Can anyone confirm this? I haven't been able to find anything on it.

This is the last thing we need, it'll give the city pretty much every reason to get our asses off the streets.

Ha! Sorry, but I will be critising your post for the next few sentance:

Firstly - Since someone on a bike throws a grenade, that would not make people think that every single bike rider is a terrorist. I really dont think that anyones is gonna give a **ck that he was on a bike, and that they are going to relate it the incodent to a friggen bike.

Secondly - That is a bit bike racist. Are you saying that if you see a guy wearing a red hat shoot a duck, the whole city is gonna remove the intire population of 'red hatted people' from the commumity?

I woudln't loose sleep over someone calling you a 'grenade thrower' when you go on your next ride.

Well... you have to remember the mindset of the easily reactionable US citizen. Back in 2002 during the Washington DC Sniper crisis, police thought for a while that the sniper(s) was using a white panel van. I'm sure you can imagine the chaos that caused.

It's a big city. And yes, I am blowing this out of proportion. The majority of people will probably not perform that type of association between terrorists and cyclists but a few might. And sometimes it only takes a select few to make it even more troublesome than a large mass.

Persons staff the NYPD, and they seem to always react violently or stupidly to stimuli. Look it up Blue Neon, it has been documented, I find Slvoid's fear to be quite rational.

Oh that's not what I'm worried about.
I'm worried about the knee jerk reactions that the entire NYPD and 50 councilmen/women just had. All this "licensing" and "documenting" cyclist talk they've had... give them enough reason and they might actually do it.

Wow, if they're just looking for "a cyclist" (no further description) it has to be a joke. Maybe some newspaper could find out whether he was wearing a helmet or not... that is about as relevant bit of information as his means of transportation.

NPR reported that the security cameras show 2 poeple and a bicyclist that went past the area around the time of the blast. Authorities wanted to talk to them to see what they might have seen.

By the way I think bikers would be a great asset to anti-terrorism. The government could pay bike commandos to simply ride the 25k miles of oil / fuel distribution pipelines and radio in reports.

By the way Good Sense is not common. So dont use common sense.

I can see it from both sides. I can agree with your reasoning, Blue Neon, but I also remember all too clearly that bicycles are banned from the local Kroger parking lot. It had to do with kids on bikes, but somehow security personnel had a hard time distinguishing 40-something shoppers (me) from kids.

Isn't the NYC government and police force in a really anti-bike mood lately? I think that is why this is a big deal, and would not be surprised if they staged this incident themselves just to have more reasons to harass cyclists.

That might be taking it a little far. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go refuel my black Sikorsky.

Over here a bike is to handbag and ATM robberies what the WRX is to jewellery store robberies...

Now see, I was going to criticize this post for misidentifying the place. This was at the British Consulate in New York. The British Embassy is in Washington, D.C.

And yes, of course, the ATF is working with MI-6, under the auspices of the Counsels of Zion and the Masons, in a huge anti-bike conspiracy. It was all in last month's issue of the Tin Foil Hat Newsletter.

Tin foil is very hard to find. Does aluminium (or aluminum for Yanks) still work?

It should work pretty well. My wheels have aluminum spokes and so I just wear those on top of my head.

Oh but come on!---all that liscensing, documentation and other forms of government instrusion will keep us "safe." isnt that what we really want--for everyone to nice, safe and secure and have our big nanny goverment keep us warm and sound with its security blanket of laws and regulations? Think of the children. We must keep them safe.

Wouldn't locking up your children in a safe be considered child-abuse?

Last time i checked the anti-cycle crowd seemed to be equal opportunity A-holes.--At least from the post of the CM members here--the cops seem to be jerks to everyoen on a bike out there. I think you meant "judgmental" "stereotyping" or "generalizing."
