Just wanted how NiteRider stands up in the real world, from the bike store it's the best thing.

NiteRider's newer digital products are of spotty quality, and are overpriced. I have A Digital Evolution, mine is fine, but I fully expect it to poop out eventually, then be too costly to fix. See Mountain Bike Reviews website for a great poll / survey on lights.

Their products have a market, and I have an older digital 12V pro system... The light worked great when it worked.

But they have limited distribution, are expensive, and service is slow. Also because of their use of proprietary systems, something as simple as a replacement battery is quite costly.

Their best product is the cheapest - the Roadrat. I had an old Niterider digital that cost $300 at the time, but for the money the 10w roadrat is acceptable for commuting. You can buy a replacement battery at a battery store for $17 too! I don't care if it weighs a little more (lead acid), I've done my time and paid my dues with the high-dollar lights.

Eons ago (seems like it anyway) just before going on an unsupported tour of Baja with a group of about 36 riders... we met at the organizer's house for pizza and a final briefing before the ride... A kick off, if you will. He showed MM on the TV just to get our heads right before the trip... just seemed to fit.

I suppose it depends on what you plan on doing. I love my cyclone for riding by miles alone deep into single track. Nothing better then seeing deer eyes glow green. Plus I'm albe to do long rides without having to carry a spare battery with me. 4-6 hours of run time with an HID is schweeeet! And if you do go deep the limp home mode is also a bonus.

Oh yeah when I've taken it out into the city people do notice me more because most haven't seen a light this bright running around.

Best part about the light is when I was riding along Chicago lake front at night. Couples would be out in the sand making out or doing other things and because my light is mounted on my helmet all of then thought I was a cop and would immdiately stop. That type of humor just doesn't get old. Kept me laughing all night.

I love the brightness of the NR systems. But for the price tag they should be flawless. I have a real problem with the way the power meter functions for the 6 volt systems. The NR website states that one does not have to fully discharge the battery. The meter in my system does not work properly (In my opinion) if I don't and may cause the light not to work for a full charge. I have already invested so much money in the system a change in brand would be costly. I'm starting to think they are not the only name in the game.

Well i only have experience with one niterider product it's the hid cyclone helmet mount light. I have to say I think it is truly a great light. I have had zero issues with it so far and have used it a lot. The battery seems to last forever usually I use it on two rides before charging. I timed the battery runtime by running it with a fan blowing at it to keep it cool on high power and it lasted 4 hours and 48 minutes. That is really amazing for the size of the battery and the amount of light it puts out. I have used other halogen lights that weren't that great. Like 2 different vistalites that sucked and no longer work. The only other one I liked was a really old cygolite that had a 10 watt and 20 watt bulbs side by side. that light is like ten years old and still works, lol. The light output on it was great but with 30 watts combined it only lasted about 55 minutes or so. I would recommend the niterider cyclone light to people because mine has been flawless.
