To some other posts in this thread:

There are a specific reasons this pass received my attention, it was clearly a punish pass. Additionally, the town where this happened is a problem point, they have rebuilt a number of main cycling routes* with very narrow roads - while neighboring cities are create bike routes (shoulders). This town is two miles from my house and I need to ride through it to access many routes. The city has posted signs to inform people using bikes that they must obey the rules of the road (riding friends have received tickets); however, they seem to fail to understand the need to enforce rules of the road on people using cars (3 pedestrian deaths in one year for a town of 4,000).

I will be avoiding this town for the next few months, to let construction complete, plus I don't typically use these routes in the winter.

I ride 6,500 miles a year, and I ride daily, year-round in MN (road riding the winter too). But feel free to call me inexperienced ... whatever helps your ego.

Lastly, I can't stop laughing about somebody posting I have waaay too much time.... yet they have time to post a pointless comment. Too funny!

* For reference, here is the Strava heat map with the yellow arrow indicating the place where the video was taken:

I usually give 'em a little nipple rub. Dunno why that's been my go to gesture lately, but it just has been.

10' wide lane, 6+' wide van, 2' wide bicycle bar/shoulders; would mean the cyclist would have had to been on the sidewalk for the van to have given 3' - 4' wide pass. The pass was no more than 14".

People keep ignoring wide angle lens "objects are closer than they appear".

Yes should do a new song, Close To The Minivan. Make at least 15 minutes or a side of it.

I suggest the pool noodle trick. Cheaper than a GoPro.

I recall seeing something like the pool noodle in France, but it was purpose built for bikes to defend the 3-foot space. Anybody know what these are called and if they're available to ship to the US. I won't be adding any of these items to the road bikes, but the commuter bikes... I'd love to give it a try.

Or just take up one step - The Friendly Cat's Paw [skrape-15] - $49.95 : KaleCoAuto.com, Your home for the rare, unusual, and hard to find auto parts.

A pool noodle with a big key on the end might be more effective. At least against drivers who value their car's paint.

My old solution was a driveway marker, zip-tied to the saddle rails; makes it easily adjustable to sit out the full 3'. Then, at the end, I used to put a sharp brad, hose-clamped to the end: I used to call this my "paint sample collector". Was a bit of a problem getting this through doorways, but, man, did it keep traffic away from me on even the busiest roads!
