I guess maybe I'm a little crazy in this regard, but I've gotten so used to high speed passes that it doesn't even bother me anymore. I have semis pass me at 60 MPH 2 feet away and I just keep on pedaling, not even really blinking. I have gotten very, very good at controlling my line despite a lot of wind buffeting. I realize that less skilled riders could EASILY get blown toward traffic or the ditch or just tipped right over, so it is something to be concerned about. I should probably be more concerned about it simply for the sake of general cyclist safety.

Sure, do it daily and what's a passing truck at 55MPH. Do it once a month, and OMG

It just takes getting hit by the side mirror just once to re-calibrate that "used to feeling" forever.

I won't say I'm "used to" close passes, I got slapped on the hip by a car mirror while unstrapping a load on a flatbed truck.
That was my reminder to never be complacent, but I'm not intimidated by being in close proximity to traffic.

Cycle Year Round
One of Britain’s most prolific ultra-distance cyclists has died after being hit by a car while competing in a coast-to-coast race in Australia, days after complaining of vehicles passing too close to him.
