We need more of this. It needs to really, really hurt if you're caught driving on a suspended license. Who knows, it may even make people afraid to lose their license in the first place.
As for without insurance, meh, I guess that's an additional factor, and it's bad, but IMO not as bad as driving while suspended.

While I commend the authorities for taking an unlicensed, uninsured motorist of the road, couldn't they put the car up for auction and use the funds for a worthwhile cause, or donate the car to a needy family?

Absolutely not. He screwed up. Cause him pain. That's fine. When you make a cause out of it law enforcement will go around looking for people to take cars off. As for saving lives... do I need to point out that the driver in question did not kill anyone.

After you take into account all the paper work and admin fees, it's probably cheaper to just crush it, even when taking into account the money you may make on the car. Let's face it, it's not going to sell for full retail, not at a government auction.

If he can afford to buy another car, he isn't poor. If he can't, then he is one more incompetent driver off the road, thereby improving public safety. If he learns his lesson, after he's served his suspension, then he will fulfill his public obligation to have both licence, insurance and car tax. If he doesn't learn his lesson, bang (or crunch) goes another car.

God (or someone) bless police car ANPR cameras.

Is that why there are four dozen bikes locked together in the city yard below the water tower?
