Almost sounds like you are onboard with ILTBs good taste that no one should ever wear cycling specific clothing for riding even if it is just black cycling spandex.
Military commissaries have specific limits on proper dress for shopping. Guess what, they are just fine with me shopping in my cycling specific spandex. So it seems it is the rest of you who are out of line with your demands.

As far as dress standards for military commissaries: so what?

This is how you should dress to get some milk and bread at the supermarket:

I would laugh at them as well. Might get an autograph too.

!. Care to cite which ILTB (or anybody else's) quote that sounds like good taste [dictates] that no one should ever wear cycling specific clothing for riding ? Sounds like you are just making up straw man arguments.

Interesting that you are not willing to own up to it now.

Have you forgotten all your anti-cycling specific clothing post from chainguard and early BF post that have been lost due to the database failures? Some of us still remember, especially since some of us were your targets for such derision.
Interesting that you are not willing to own up to it now.

This is really just another "people who don't dress, ride, or otherwise act as I do are doing it wrong" thread. This one centers on attire, but it's really no different than disc v. rim brakes, or tire pressure, or any number of other BF threads. Only difference is when it comes to attire, folks who wish to impose their own standards can branch out to criticize the general public.
Does it really make a difference to anyone if I wear cycling togs in the grocery store? In some areas that I ride, I see a lot of guys with their pants down to their thighs. It's frankly a rather foreign subculture to me, but it's their culture. If I ride in other areas, I can see women coming out of church in really silly hats. Looks absurd to me, but it's their subculture, not mine. The market is the public square where we all come together regardless of our dress. And in a polite and civil society, we all respect each other's choices. Because why the heck would we do otherwise?

A segment of the cycling subculture, like the Emperor with no clothes is mighty touchy when their absurd looking appearance (for shopping) is noticed and pointed out by others who are not members of the cycling togs are appropriate everywhere "subculture."

"Looking absurd" IS the bottom line.

The issue is not how people dress. The issue *here* is the people who point. (Which is NOT the point of the story.)
BTW, in recent times, the people who point have been busy shaming a woman for participating in a tree planting ceremony. If anyone bothered to look at archived photos of the tree planting ceremony, EVERYONE is absurdly dressed for planting a tree. But nobody ever actually plants a tree during a tree planting ceremony. They only shovel a few scoops of loose topsoil.
(ps. You might want to pick up a copy of "The Emperor's New Clothes" and read it.)

And what looks absurd to some is fashionable to others. I recognize that and respect my fellow citizens' right to make their own choices based on their own frames of reference. I think it makes for a better society when we can respect that others view life through a different lens than we do. There are many styles of dress I would never adopt, but it doesn't elevate me in any way to criticize those styles. Do you feel passing such judgements elevates you or improves your life?

You mean like posting " If I ride in other areas, I can see women coming out of church in really silly hats. Looks absurd to me"? Makes me feel just like you.

It's a glorious day to hang in the swimming pool ... then someone evacuates himself and it's a cesspool.
Oh, in the form of a question, Alex? "Why is A&S not a more active, popular forum?"

Except that I don't suggest people should not do what appears absurd to me. I appreciate and applaud them for it. The world would be an exceedingly dull place if everyone dressed or otherwise behaved as I do. Absurdity should be celebrated.
