Another road rage (Australia)

New video though it says it happened a year ago. Driver sideswiped cyclist in bike lane for no reason, then got out of the car and threw the bike away before continuing driving.

I think the driver was charged, convicted and fined.
Not sure of exact details.

Glad the driver behind has a dashcam, and thought about getting a closer look at the license plate.

He should be jailed for this. Assault with a deadly weapon.

From the video page:
### UPDATE ### This happened in November last year, but the owner of the video only decided to post it now. The driver was charged with 'Reckless Driving Causing Injury' and fined $1000. The police was very helpful, but the end result is very poor at $1000 in fines.
Does it mean the driver still has the license and is still driving? It's intentional harming, not just reckless driving.

I think suspension of license pending completion of an anger management course is warranted. God help his wife, if any.

Reckless would have been a slam-dunk in this case and it is usually VERY hard to prove (as opposed to 'careless' and lower legal classes).

Any of the higher charges involving non-driving specific things (I'm pretty sure there is no 'intentionally cause harm with a vehicle' charge in Victoria) would have been almost impossible to secure a conviction for.

Prosecutors/police probably did OK with this. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a guilty plea.

Looked like a paid hit-man to me. I wonder what the motorist's story was. I would love to have heard that before showing him the video.

Daily Mail Australia reports (link is external)that the cyclist involved, 29-year-old Jack McDonnell, had keyed Michael Giarrusso's Nissan Patrol shortly beforehand. At Melbourne Magistrates' Court in August, McDonnell admitted criminal damage with intent to damage or destroy. He was put in a programme for first-time offender as part of which he wrote a letter apologising to the motorist.

Although we are all sorely tempted, it's never a good idea these days with all of the reports of violent road rage. Over 600 gun-related incidents in the US each year. Crazy stuff.
