Near the entrance to the bike lane on the Brooklyn side of the Manhattan Bridge.

Why are there people opposed to roadside memorials? Are they afraid that too many memorials will make the street ugly?

I would urge everyone to read up on sociopathy. Most of those afflicted with this condition enjoy getting a rise out of everyone just because they can. Once you read up on the pathology, senseless acts become understandable. For example, how could a normal person run down another human, pedestrian or cyclist, and then just drive off. For most of us, such a blatant lack of empathy would be unthinkable but to the sociopath this is SOP. There are numerous you tube videos on this condition but but a 10 minute video does not cover the subject well. Best is a book with some case histories such as "The Sociopath Next Door" by a Harvard psychologist, Martha Stout.

I think that is rust, not burn marks. It looks pretty clear to me that the sign post was struck. The concrete at the base would not be broken if it were cut. The yellow diamonds appear to have paint smears on them.
This just goes to show that no matter how highly visible you are, you can still get hit when the driver is not looking, paying attention or awake.

I'm sure I'll get some flak for this, well intentioned I'm sure, but I feel they become roadside distractions and I don't think we need more distractions.

But isn't that the point of the memorial? Or should another sign be installed in its place, like a yellow yield sign.
