Dealing with addicts and agressive people on rides
Toronto like many major cities has a issue with opioid addiction as well as meth / crank.
Last week I was riding a fixed gear bike on Queen Street and some guy came up to me .. he was obviously on crank or goofballs or something.He had a Bianchi in his hands he obviously stole. He said "he brother. I saw you staring at me..".
I promptly grabbed his bike and launched it across queen street and said "If he was looking to get splattered ..just like his bike.... To keep talking"
He grabbed his destroyed bike and ran away like a SCUM BAG.
Anyways, do you ever encounter agressive people like this on your rides ?!?
How do you handle situations like this ?

Sounds like you were the "aggressive" person...did you know the bike was stolen or just making an assumption?

If you’re asking for advice on how to handle such problems, one answer is don’t do what you did. What you accomplished by tossing his bike I’ve no clue ?

in the very, very unlikely event it’s not …. if you were riding a bike, and he was carrying one (i.e. walking) why didn’t you just … keep riding?

Seems that if you destroyed the bike by throwing it, then you owe someone some money to fix it.
However I have seen homeless people living in tent cities near the bike paths around the Denver CO area. There are some that look scary but I don't know if they've been any issue other than doing what they have to do to survive. Which isn't necessarily good or safe for us.
Many homeless have other issues than just being unemployed. Sometimes it's mental problems. So maybe complain to your representatives that something needs to be done beside moving the problem to some other area and hoping no one notices the growing problem.

Crazy homeless people is just one of the things I don't have to deal with, TG. However, I'm not totally ignorant of those type of encounters, because I'm from Washington DC and have ridden thru there plenty of times and it's pretty bad. We also have a little bit of a problem here in Jacksonville proper, but it's not too bad, compared to other big cities I've been to, besides D.C., such as NYC, Boston and Philadelphia. And I've been to Portland, that was eye opening.
I'm about 15-miles from the heart of Jacksonville, the only thing I see are people at major intersections colleting money, using the typical signs to garner sympathy. They don't even ask me -- they just walk by -- when they see I'm on a bike
You see the worst when you get to the heart of Jacksonville, which I consider the Bus station and it can probably be called little D.C. -- very little
Although once in a while you'll see some really crazy guy on the Appalachian trail, but all-in-all they mostly like to stay in large cities.

Careful Stud... Throwing someones (?) bike into the street could easily be an invitation to a Freetail Arse WHooping! Even in Canada...
I do fully understand your point of view though. You probably should avoid that neighborhood in the future. If for no other reason but to avoid the stress of throwing bikes in the street...
