Tim Blumenthal - RIP

I just saw on Bicycle Retailer that Tim Blumenthal, former ED of IMBA and founding CEO of Bikes Belong / People For Bikes, just passed away on March 30th. A man of many accomplishments.

The article: https://bicycleretailer.com/industry...ycling-dies-70

I encountered Tim while working on national-level issues in the 1990s and 2000s. We didn't always agree, but he was always polite, well-spoken, and willing to hear out other viewpoints. And there was mutual respect that regardless of the details there was a sincere shared interest in improving cycling.

He will be missed.

At 70yo from cancer. Sad.

Cancer is the one thing that killed virtually all the generation of my family before my generation. On both sides.

I'll have to make sure to give a donation to People For Bikes. I use to, but ignored them most of last year.

I looked in my files for a decent photo of Tim, but all I could find is this one from the LAB Board meeting at Interbike 2008. Tim wasn't on the LAB Board, but as the head of BB/PfB, he certainly was an interested observer.

I knew him from when I lived in Broomfield CO for a couple years during the 1980’s . A friend I made while out there got me into MTBs and we were frequenting the rides out of Boulder. Tim was a big part of the Boulder MTB scene.
Last I saw him was in the late 90’s at the Chequmegon MTB festival in Wisconsin. My condolences to his family and friends.
