Politician Calls For Critical Mass
|
Where did it say Critical Mass? Looks like they just wanted to do a "Mass" Bike ride. Did the media forget to mention the "Critical" part?

careful, the fools in this forum simply hate political organization of cyclists and wish every cyclist would wait patiently in traffic country until cars moved, red-sea-like, out of their way.

I just don't like it because the cagers have as much a right to the road as we do, yet some CMs make it a habit to interfere with that right, through blocking intersections, runnign lights, etc. Like I have iterated a million+1+man+dog times... CM in concept is great, but in practice is a massive fustercluck. It doesn't make any point to these people, as they are getting too angry to catch the point. Plus, do you carry any advocacy fliers or anything similar? If not, then why are you doing an "advocacy" activity, as you would call it, and not have materials for it? Well maybe then advocacy by example? Advocacy by example only works if it's done in a proper way, and blocking intersections, running lights, and riding 6-8 abreast is NOT the right way to do advocacy by example....at that point since it was arranged and has so many people involved, it's deliberately congesting a roadway. SO not that either.... So what type of functional advocacy is being done here, or is it just a massive group ride, under the guise of advocacy? ..and start riding legal.....trying to advocate cycling when running lights, etc, is like having Osama host a talk on world peace. |
don't you worry. the ride followed all traffic laws and was very peaceful.
I was was the sound bike guy. If ya want to *****, look elsewhere. VC, all the way. |
B.A.B thanks for towing the sound trailer.
Cata. I hear what you are saying and one point all the nay-sayers and pro-NYCcm'ers may be missing on is, who the message is aimed at. Consider who is driving in a car in NYC, (very unlikely it is a Manhattan resident or a NYC resident) and who is cheering us on from the sidewalks. Is it bike advocacy or car taming? "Blocking" cars one night a month, while we are usually stuck in the traffic of out of towners who drastically lower our quality of life. I am all for anything that makes driving a personal car in NYC more inconvenient and more expensive. I joined CM after seeing it go by one night. It was a happy cluster of bike riders, with the power of numbers, not shying from the heavy metal intimidation of cars. I have brought others on rides who are now dedicated bike commuters, and I wonder if they would have become such without seeing the support of numbers at a Critical Mass ride. |

Being a good rider is probably the best example to set forth to a motorist. I have no idea how to slim down the pack size to fit between traffic lights without breaking teh social fun aspect of it...but there has to be an answer somewhere....I've seen pics of some of the NYC CM masses....huge is a pretty fitting word. |
