Memorial Park trails (Houston, TX) threatened
Just my luck -- just when I'm getting ready to explore some area trails it looks as if some of the best (well, for around here anyhow) are going away. The new 'Master Plan' for Memorial Park eliminates pretty much all of the existing MTB trails and replaces them with a perimeter trail that will almost certainly offer little in the way of challenge or interest for people currently riding the exisiting trails.
If you live in the Houston area and want to make your voice heard (it's your park too, ya know!), you can start here:
https://www.hpbinc.org/public_meeting_2.htm
Follow the links to the Parks Board addresses and the info from the last meeting. Now would also be a good time to remind your local scoundrels (City Council members, Mayor, etc.) that this issue is a good way to gain or lose your vote.
More info can also be found here:

The Houston area doesn't exactly have a surplus of good trails, so we can't afford to let one go -- plus, this sort of thing could happen to other trails in the area if this goes through unopposed.

Man, I'm getting ready to move to Houston and now this. I heard about Memorial Park having some good trails, guess I'll never get to ride them.

CycleMON, too bad about moving to Houston... if you can change it, i strongly urge another choice. i lived there for 3 years from '93 to '97... worst place i ever lived... and yes, there is a lack of trails, plus clean water and mountains, plus too much pavement, mosquitos and autos...
Grendel,
hmmm... too bad. when i was there Memorial was always being threatened to be closed to MTB b/c of "damage" to the trails... as a major environmentalist myself this is pretty much a joke as the Houston destroys the environment at will...
good luck in getting something done to prevent the paving and destroying of the few trails Hosuton's got
