I swear, if the city built a moat with spikes in the bottom of it as a bicycle "improvement," there would be some people who would defend the improvement and praise the city's efforts.

The routes chosen are ones that most people use anyway so it's aimed more at people new to the city. The Denver Bicycle Touring Club has been publishing a similar, and much more comprehensive Metro wide map, for at least 25 years. I have traveled to several metro areas over the years and haven't found anything as useful anywhere I've gone.

I treat the routes as a guide. Usually, I stick to the guide. If I encounter construction, traffic problems, boredom, and anything else I forgot to mention, I divert from the routes.

OK sometimes I'm dense. In the picture there's a long wheelbase van past the stop line plus a few feet. The post is about at the stop line. This means that the post is at least one and one-half car lengths before the intersection. Where's the problem with that?

I can't comment on the OPs post, but the posts like this where I live are terrible. They are always to the right mounted on the sidewalk facing the road.
There is either a marked RTOL or a very wide lane with inductive sensors on the left part and none on the right (so right turning vehicles don't trigger the light)
These posts force the cyclist to the gutter to push the button, between right turning vehicles. If when you get to the intersection there is no car going straight (very common, why would a car leaving a neighborhood go straight into another one, instead they turn to get on the arterial) then you are forced to squeeze yourself between the line of RTing vehicles to activate the signal. I go out of my way to avoid routes with these buttons (every intersection has them on the officially marked bike routes) as they are quite annoying to deal with.

Or are you being sarcastic and wrongfully suggesting that I don't like bike lanes? I'm not saying that's what you are doing, but if you were, don't you think that would be rather shabby?

Huh? I'm sorry. It must be because I just got home after a reeeeally long day, but I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't like bike lanes? Shabby? Huh? Calm down Chennai. If you don't like the button, don't press it. That's all I'm sayin'. Your silent protest of the pole would speak more volumes than your threads on bikeforums anyway. OMG. You should totally hold an antipole candlelight vigil! I will look for you on the news; maybe you could get some pro-pitbull dudes to join you.
