I am aware this is a skinny tire thread, but all this talk about sharing the road reminded me of the MTN Bike trail we road on last weekend. There is a fun place where there are these deep washes and have nice trails in them made by motorcycles packing the ground.
We were having fun when all these motorcycles comealong and start diving in and out of the wash. We did not want to get run over so we just fallowed them, and due to the course we could stay right on the tails of those gassers, and they were using the throttle. They got bored and left, couldn't help but think they felt a little tweeked that a couple MTN Bikers could ride with them gassers.:p |

So if we just understood the Klan we wouldn't hate them?? http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/k...corn-1890.html When I read the post I quoted, I just thought of the way the song was worded and it struck me as similar, but I guess nothing is funny when you have to explain it. |
Ill post why i used to hate cyclists. Notice I said "used to hate".:) It was basicaly because I thought they had no right to be on the road since they couldnt keep a speed close to that of a car and made it unsafe for them and me. I also didnt like them because I thought the bike shorts were for looks and looked real stupid to me. I never did it, but,... the thought of hitting them with something as I drove by always crossed my mind if for nothing but for them looking so stupid in the bike shorts. As I matured and got older I changed my views. I began to relize that just because someone rides a bike and wears weird shorts doesnt change the fact that they are people to just like me. They have the right to ride a bike and be on the road the same as I do. I also began to not make assumptions about something as petty as thinking the shorts were dumb. I looked into it and relized it wasnt for looks, but comfort and performance. This was all years ago before I started riding. Now when I ride, I always hope my old attidue doesnt come up behind me on the road. The point is, I relized people are all the same and I needed to grow up and not be so judgemental about everything. People who hate cyclists need to grow up and stop thinking like a selfish brat.

+10 and welcome to the peloton. I tend to think a lot of the "issues" stem from the first thing you mentioned: "I thought they had no right to be on the road." I firmly believe that a lot of motorists think the way you once did... and they have no idea at all that we do have rights to the road... that many motorists simply think they are doing us a favor by not hitting us. Talk to your work mates and see if they know that cyclists have rights to the road... if not... give them the word. Meanwhile... happy cycling. :D |

Welcome to the board. I don't think you're too far from me, I'm down by Atlanta. |
