Gangs on bikes...
Ok...these criminals are either trying to save gas...can't afford gas...environmentally aware...or maybe it is simply a sign of our economy when drive-by shootings take place from a Murray Roadmaster instead of an Escalade.:)
"Police also say a man was shot in Greenville Sunday morning as well. This shooting happened after midnight around 12:30 Sunday morning, when officers responded to 1513-A Fleming Street. Police say they found a 32 year old victim who had been shot, by two men on bicycles. The victim was treated and released from Pitt County Memorial Hospital. No arrests in either of these cases just yet." http://www.witntv.com/news/headlines/3938636.html |
Maybe they're just environmentally aware thugs.
Ya know, like the Monkey Wench Gang meets Why We Bang.... |
All the cholos around here ride lowriders.

Has not this theme had some impact in the movies. Bikes can take routes other than just the roads, no license plates. What a way to blend in with the crowd, should you find a path filled with other cyclists. Just don't wear a colorful jersey. T shirts would do, I imagine. Helmets and wind around glasses to replace a mask. Better shut up and not give the thugs ideas.

Here in Houston we occassionally hear of convenience store robbery or shooting suspects escaping on bikes. In a very urban area, they can dissapear very quickly on a bike before police or even witnesses can find them. And bikes are easy to steal and dump.

Someone at work told me today that this isn't the only "bike drive-by" this month. There was a similar incident a couple of weeks ago. They caught the last guy.
Evidently, the police has cracked down on cyclists. A co-worker was telling me that he was in Greenville this weekend and the PD has a couple of cyclists pulled over. Since traffic was backed up, he could hear part of the "debate" as he creeped by. The cyclists were wearing their cycling clothes (which means they were probably with the local LBS). He could hear the cyclists saying to the cops that they didn't think they were doing anything wrong.."we have our helmets on..." and them something about their rights. Then, the co-worker heard the cop say..."listen LANCE ARMSTRONG, you keep arguing and I'll arrest you...you can't be holding up traffic". Ironically, there are signs along some of the streets in that area that say "Share the Road" and have the cyclist emblem. |

You know this means that we're going to be "profiled" by the feds.

My local police Department recently had a big crackdown on crime. This included a lot of traffic stops of bicyclists. Since I follow the laws, and have proper equipment I was never stopped. Of course, I was wearing lycra shorts, not quite the OG style of dress favored by gang bangers and dealers, and I have been bike commuting for almost a year, so the local cops know me on sight.

Have any of you ever ridden around a poor, crime ridden neighborhood? Bikes are all over the place. All ages ride, because thats all some people can afford.
