What's up with all the car hating?

Hating cars is so eternally white belt it's ridiculous. What, am I really supposed to ride my bike to Milwaukee every time I want a cheeseburger? Christ.

Yes, you are. But there's really no need to argue about it; soon enough you won't have any choice.

bottom line is there are just too many people...which leads to too many cars...which leads to increased douchbag behavor....which makes cyclists mad....which leads to many threads on this forum bashing car drivers.

anyway, enjoy your cheeseburger, and stay the hell away from me in your two ton piece of steel.

I've been an SUV driver all week and will be next week too. Had surgery last week and can not ride, per Dr. orders, but more importantly, there is no way I could if I wanted to. I tried walking 1/4mi to the local convenience store last night. Ouch.
I miss cycling, especially commuting, so much. Its hard.
But the driving has given me good observations from the motor driver perspective.
Please don't hate me.

i rented a car last week and drove all around the boston area. it was very easy to give cyclists room, i never once felt the need to honk at anyone or yell stuff out the window. i don't understand what people's problems are sometimes when they get behind a wheel.

This thread isnt about getting along.

It is about hatred.

If you rented a car they hate you to.

Cabs are a lot cheaper than an SUV.

I use a car, but I do realize that they are help speed the demise of our planet and especially in the united states, where you get one guy riding down the road in a hummer. Personally, I hope the price of gas does go up to about $5 a gallon or higher, as I will just use my bicycle more and drive even less. I also have a civic, which gets pretty good mileage. Atleast the prices should go back up soon enough, once the elections are over that is.

I hate people that drive the cars like morons, not the cars themselves. This is like the new PETA, cyclists that hate automobiles (it doesn't apply to me and many others, although it's widely considered a blanket statement amongst many who post on this board.) Yes we are doing a good thing by cycling, but don't be a hater just cuz you're doing "the right thing." This being said, I hate ****** bags that are on bikes that have no clue. Hate man and not the machine. . . hahahahahaha

Well, if you take it into consideration that this forum should be called the Advocacy and Vent forum, it really is no wonder drivers get such vehemence from us as this is the area where we let out all the frustration which is caused by...... wait for it....... wait for it...... Stupid Drivers. Anyway, thats just my theory. Probably wrong though.

What's the per mile cost of a cab these days? $4?

I don't think owning an SUV is even $1 per mile (including gas, maintenance, depreciation, insurance, etc.).

I doubt a one week cab bill would be anywhere near $30-$50,000.

I also doubt he bought-- rather than rented-- an SUV for one week.

Hey I own this SUV (2dr ford explorer) paid 22k in 2000, I owe nothing on it.
I just pay insurance (registered as pleasure vehicle), gas (22mpg actual in city due to way I drive, 24 freeway), maintenance/consumables.
See my post on car free why I am not car free:
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...=233199&page=2
"There is no hurdle[to becoming car free], its just not something that I want to do, that is not change my lifestyle - instead have the ease to go hiking or backpacking on weekends, ability to go to concerts/shows/events that are >20mi from my house, doing my own yard and house remodel and picking up my own large/bulky supplies. So I am glad I have a paid for 2dr Explorer to do those things.
This does not mean I use it when cycling is a better option, I cycle commute every day to work, ride to the start of every club ride or cycling event (or don't sign up if >30mi away), I do all my local errands (shopping, groceries, dr, dentist) on bike too."

A cab to work and back would be $50/day. So yes renting a vehicle for 3wks would be cheaper.
