First Aid Kit - On the CHEAP!

I was at Long's drug store the other day picking up some misc stuff and these kits just happened to catch my eye. I refuse to pay $20+ for the typical Biking/Hiking/Outdoor adventure "first aid kits"!!

I found this nice little kit from a new company called XACTAID.
https://www.xactaid.com (not much there right now unfortunately)

I picked up a 28 piece "scrape kit" (perfect for cyclists of all kinds) for $2.99!!! And it comes in a nice, handy little re-usable container that will fit neatly in my hydro pack.

That's great thanks for the link. Too bad there are no Long's in FL (that I've seen at least) but I'll keep an eye out.

Someone should market a First aid kit for cyclists, something that would fit into a waterproof wedgie. It is also important to know how to use everything in the first aid kit and know how to respond to an accident. Last November I took a two-day refresher first aid and CPR course at my local St. Johnís Ambulance and found the information useful. I plan on taking the Wilderness First Aid course this winter.

Who teaches the Wilderness First Aid?? I'd like to take that, and update my probably 6 year old First Aid...

The xactaid kit will fit nicely in even a fairly small hydro pack...

St. Johnís Ambulance offers the course and a good book on this subject as well and recently I seen an advertisement for a course offered at one of our local universities. Not sure what is offered in your area, but have a look at continuing education at you local college

The red cross does a BLS first aid course, it is 8 hours alot of the times it is split over two days. I know I have taken this course quite a few times, it covers you're standard CPR.. and alot of first AID. You should be able to contact your local redcross to find out where it is offered, you also get a card certifying you from the Red Cross.

I've seen bike first aid kits in the drugstore, or I did. They seem to have disappeared. However, you can get a 'road rash kit' from Nashbar. We ordered a few of them. They had all kinds of stuff- ointment, bandages, bee sting stuff, salt tablets, disinfectant swabs, tylenol.

An LBS here carries a first aid kit for cyclists. I have a small one I picked up at Walgreens for camping. It has everything I would need for a simple injury and a cell phone for anything big.
