Maybe it's the summer of 1967, but in the present?

She posted this recently on Stephan Orsak's site. It appears as one posting in a long string of other people's postings. Most of those are posted in some other spirit -- anger, contention, outrage, complaint, blame, etc., etc.

And her posting stood out like a breath of good air.

Why can't more people spread that kind of spirit?, or something like it?, or at least something positive?

It seems that she brightens everyone's days, and all of her encounters, and has a great time as well.

I'm not saying we should all festoon our bikes with flowers, and behave exactly like her; but it just struck me somehow, when I came across her contribution to the mix -- it was so different, and so unusual -- she's indicating a variety of possibilities.... Why can't there be more variations on themes of positive riding experiences, and positive encounters with cops and motorists, and positive contributions to the whole mix of life?

We all bring something to the table.

She's bringing something interesting.

I too live in a town where by far the bulk of the interactions which I have on my commute to/from work each day are pleasant - this included the police officers, road workers, joggers, walkers etc. Exchanged smiles and waves are a daily occurrence. This is not to say that I don't run into rude motorists, but on balance, my interactions with others on the bike are pleasant. In contrast, when I am driving my automobile, I rarely interact with others. This is one of the reasons that I love my 2 hours of commuting each day.

Well, even being an arguer myself, I still think that Molly Garvey and her pink bike do more for cycling advocacy every single day than all of us angry confrontational types. We'd all be happier, and healthier, and cycling would be more respected, if we all had Molly Garvey and her pink bike's attitude.

Since I switched to a recumbent, I've had far more positive interactions with other road users than I ever had on the road bike, and far less negative ones. Previously, I either seemed to be abused or ignored.

Huzzah for weird bikes!
