That's silly. Surely it's illegal to drive a car on the sidewalk, but a lot of people would do that numerous times a day, just entering\exiting driveways. Sounds like quota madness.

My court date is June thanks for any insight.
Would have thought you would have got an on the spot fine of $50(approx) and that would be it. Going to court for that sounds like a waste of everybodies time, or do you just go there to pay the fine?

Here's what you do. Plead not guilty on the ticket. Go to traffic court and see if you can find an attorney who works there. Many of these traffic court attorneys are paralegals who know the "system" and can have the ticket discharged. You never know when the other ticket is going to come and it's better to have the first one toss out because the next one will double and you may have to pay that one!

You have a choice, either pay the attorney or the court. Both cost the same.

if they're a paralegal they aren't an attorney, they're a legal assistant.

if earlier comments about increasing fines are true... the attorney may well be cheaper.

In Cali speeding and moving violations incur huge fines. People go to traffic court, apologize to the judge, and the fines are cut to a fraction of the original. If it works similarly in NY, I bet you could apologize and wind up paying nothing. Again, this highlights the circus of traffic court.

Ok this is how it works:
Read the summons as there are some instructions that instruct you to do one or the other but not both...that is plea guilty OR not guilty. Mail it in by return receipt BEFORE the date that is marked "return date" (or SRD) if it is a "must appear" then you must appear on that date. Even though you are to appear in criminal court it is not a crime that you have been cited for. It is a violation or an offense. It is a NON crime just as a parking ticket. If you appear because you plead not guilty see if you can hook up with a para-legal. BUT remember that just because you pay some guy some money does not mean you will get off and may very well have to pay the fine as well. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO DO THAT is the question that YOU must answer not anyone on this list. As to quotas... I really doubt it...most have better things to do and at the end of the day would be laughted out of the locker room for writing something like this without being instructed to look for such violations. 99 percent of the people have no clue as to how NYPD works. Unless the're on the job forget it. So choose your battles wisely and decide is it worth it to you. Some days I go before a happy judge and the next day he's not so happy.

After you pay the paralegal, they tell you to go home! Yup, you don't even have to see the judge. The paralegal talks to the cop, he turns around and walks away and the ticket is discharged. Happend to me.

The whole municipal court situation is currupt in New York City.
