Kid Critical Mass :)
 

I had to drive to a meeting away from my office a few days ago. At about a hundred yards from a stop sign, I saw a bike go through the intersection. After a couple of seconds, another one...then another one. By this time I was at the stop sign, so I stopped and looked to my left. There were at least 50 bicycles coming toward me, each one ridden by a kid and all ages were represented. I saw teenagers and some that looked to be as young as 6 or 7. I was enjoying the spectacle and they all looked so happy, but then I had to laugh out loud when I realized they were holding up a couple dozen cars (this was a one-way street, by the way) and the drivers didn't look all too happy. Most of them turned off as they got to that intersection.

I don't know who these kids were, where they came from or where they were going, but it was cute and I was glad to see them. :D

Too bad so few people have so little patience to allow a group of kids to enjoy themselves.

Kidical Mass hits Portland! Founded in Eugene in April 2008 by Shane Rhodes, of Eugene's Safe Routes to School program, and Paul Adkins of BikeFriday, this family friendly event is designed to draw attention to kids and families with the necessary reminder that kids are traffic too. This is a law-abiding easy ride in traffic on downtown streets. Helmets are required and decorations and bike bells are encouraged. There's no fee but bring cash because we're going for ice cream!
