comment section after auto drivers die

I'm sure we have all read the cheering motorists giving their opinion in an online newspaper after a cyclist dies.

The good old, "another lane wanna be gets what they deserve" and etc.

I think we should start going to all the newspapers everyday when approx. 115 people will die in the United States inside their cars and cheering and discussing why cars do not belong on the road and should only be driven on race tracks.

I am so sick and tired of these miserable SOB's.

Just because one segment of the population acts in poor taste, doesn't mean that you (we) should.

What made you think this was a good idea for advocacy? Seems to be counter-productive to gaining acceptance.

maybe he's just venting some frustration and anger in the (comparatively) safe venue of bf. i mean, really, who here, after reading 60 comments by motorists heaping abuse on a cyclist killed by a car doesn't engage in a few private fantasies of "getting" those "cagers"?

No doubt that anyone who would sit and read 60 comments by motorists heaping abuse on a cyclist killed by a car may be living in a fantasy land.

I drive a car and a bike, I dont see why everyone here hates auto drivers, is it because you cant affdord a car? or what is it? I've never hit anyone on a bike, or anyone at all.

REad the comment section in any American paper after a cyclists dies.

Or just come ride 100 miles in my town where people will curse, threaten and honk at you at least twice.

I can afford a car. I could buy a new one with cash which is more than the average motorist can do.

So you want to become one yourself? Do you imagine that will improve cycling conditions?

This has to be the lamest idea for "cycling advocacy" I have ever heard.

The point is that I would be considered "crazy" for doing something so mean spirited and hateful and yet it happens every time a cyclist dies in this country.

That is the point. When your in your cage you think of bikes as obstacles rather than people.

Do you really think that people who give a foaming-at-the-mouth cheer when a cyclist is killed aren't considered "crazy" by everybody else for doing something so "mean spirited and hateful"?

You should probably not be giving these mouth-breathers any more dignity than they deserve-- you're taking them way too seriously.

And I dare say there are quite a few people who post here who do not consider "cagers" to be people either. You seem to think that irrational hatred is a phenomenon unique to motorists...er, I mean "cagers."

Comments from fark.com read tham all here https://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comm...IDLink=3659542

bicyclists are a scourge.
AS soon as bikes are forced to carry insurance, pay for usage tax, required to have training and be licensed then and only then, will i treat them with any respect on the road.
Until then, lets remember one truth:
Right of way = Tonnage + velocity
Bicycles are on the list right above skateboarders!
whatshisname: Driving close to parked cars can be very dangerous. I'd recommend you move out a bit and try and "occupy the lane". Two weeks ago a Toronto cyclist was doored by a driver who opened their door without looking. They were knocked into traffic and killed by a truck. No charges have been laid.

Will the family have to pay for damage done to the door?
in order for traffic to flow smoothly, though, traffic should be traveling at relatively similar speeds so as to not create unsafe differentials in speed. unless you're a professional cyclist, you probably can't keep pace with 30-40mph roads. in these cases you should choose to forgoe your right to the road and realize that you'd be extremely selfish and burdensome to the other traffic. yes you have the right to the road just like you have the right to be a ignorant moron... but sometimes rights are better left unexercised.

Garbage in, garbage out. What would you expect, reading fark?

This still applies:

Well, at least you're operating on a higher plane than all those mouth-breathers, eh?

Because you're on a bike an' all...

I hear you man and i know your just venting and in the deepest recesses of my mind i think i've thought about that too for maybe a millisecond or so. Of course it would be only hurt cyclist advocacy.

Blue so what do you recommend just stand quietly as others cheer for our banishment at best or deaths at worst.

Do you really believe that your options are limited to (a) standing quietly as others cheer for our deaths, or (b) disrespecting the human victims of a tragic accident and debasing ourselves?

The fact that you can sink to what you've done tells me all I'll ever need to know about your character.

6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. Congratulations, there's now no difference between you and the mouth-breathers who celebrate the deaths of cyclists.

No i am asking you for another idea.
many of us have been threatened by drivers using there car as a weapon. almost all of us. So i speak up that makes me a bad character really.

Yes I do wear my cable lock so i can use it for windshield polo if the need araises. or would defending my self again lower myself to their level.
you t`hoestly think that if you are on a bicycle you should just be quiet and never take any action whatsoever.
ok that works. really because thats how it supposed to.
What should i do the next time i am threatened go ride up to a cop and tellthem what happened? Dial 911 while peddeling and explain that my wife was assulted by someone one somewhere in a red sedan?because i was too busy attending to my family to get a license plate.
i am starting to see where activism has a role.

Terrible idea presented by OP.
The number of motorists that honestly "cheer" the death of an innocent cyclist is likely .0000000000001% of drivers around the world.

Defending yourself against agro and cheering 'hoora' for ppl killed in accidents are two entirely different things at differing ends of the Karma Scale.
