I can't even read that. My only participation in this "war" is legally riding my bicycle on the road. The small minority of motorists that has a problem with that is engaged in all sorts of rude and unlawful behavior. Not much I can do about that.

What most motorists fail to understand is that cyclists learn their arrogant behavior from having to deal with arrogant motorists.
Even the most ardent vehicular cyclists say "you have to be assertive."
"Assertive" often leads to "arrogant."

I agree with chipcom. I certainly don't think of myself as engaged in war with motorists (since I am a motorist and a cyclist). I sometimes have problems with occasional persons behind the wheel the same way I have problems with individual cyclists who scream down sidewalks at a million miles an hour in front of a nursing home. The problem is disrespectful behaviour on the part of particular individuals without regard to their chosen form of transportation.

The only time I get problems with rude motorists is when driving my wife's car. In more than 40 years of recreational cycling and commuting, I have learnt to ride in a predictable manner and how other road users are likely to behave. I go through stop signs and red lights, but not without checking for traffic. The number of bikes on the Montreal streets results in motorists seeing bikes as part of the normal traffic.

And the funniest of the comments after the article!
We will have to get along, it's what we Iowans do, it's why other states idolize our way of life.
