Scariest, most depressing video ever...

Be warned- this is really graphic. All the more reason to show it to every driver and cyclist, say annually. Apologies if previously posted!

YouTube - Corvette C6 Z06 fly-by
I had a Ford Transit diesel van topped out, foot to the floor, at 150-ish km/h (around 90 mph), just like the camera car in that vid, and I was one of the slowest on the Autobahn. There weren't any rockets like that Vette passing by when I was driving, but the typical big German sedans and station wagons were probably cruising at 240 km/h (150 mph). And, frankly, with the discipline that the other drivers displayed in basic aspects of driving such as lane control, signaling and situational awareness, I felt safer there than when I got back to DC and was coming home from the airport.

The video in the opening post, though... Talk about an illustration of the consequences of driver error and general stupidity.

I remember watching a "Modern Marvels" episode on the Autobahn, and seeing a clip about 3 men (driver, passenger, and cameraman) jammed into a Porsche at night at top speed. Here's a snapshot of their top speed.

Dear Mr. Trucker,

If you are going to run over me, would you please not also skid on me, then park on me too? Pick ONE, ok!?

I think I might take tomorrow off from traveling.

There aren't words...can't describe what I feel..........

To be that inattentive, that stupid, that careless, that self-absorbed -- and what does it say about societies when another pedestrian can just calmly walk away from one of those, with a dead or nearly-dead person right in front of them?

Show it during driver's ed, at every licensing, and every plate renewal. No more 'mailing in' the renewals, either -- make 'em sit through that!

I've long been a bitterly cynical proponent of the thought that 'if you do something stupid, you deserve every bad thing you get' -- but how many of those people did nothing stupid or wrong, and DIED?

I'll be the first to say it...summary execution of hit & run perpetrators.

I liked the video and, the music. But the printed language in the video was either, Italian or, Portuguese. So I couldn't read it.

I don't call them Zombies and Meanderthols for nothing.

The point this video drove home for me (now that I have slept on it) is the transiency of live. Here one instant, gone the next. Just going to work...DEAD.

You see those rear-end crashes into stopped vehicles? Another reason why on my bike I don't stop at red lights. Drunk/elderly/texting people might turn me into a "bumper sandwich". I will be more careful splitting lanes around trucks for a while tho.

I'm not yet finding this particular compilation on Youtube, but I've seen several of the clips before.

This one has runaway semi trucks, Arab "drifters", car drivers veering into bystanders, bicyclists and moped riders getting run over, stationary cars getting rear-ended on the highway (one clip is missing the segment where a Mustang practically deflates a big Ford Econoline-type van), jaywalking pedestrians getting drilled, "runaway" cars hitting storefronts, speeding motorcycles hitting oncoming traffic, an illegally turning SUV getting T-boned by another, etc etc., ending with a stunt motorcyclist with a helmet cam high-siding his bike and tumbling into some brush at what looks like somewhere beyond 60 mph (and, although he appears to be in pain, he might be the only person in this video that survived his accident).

Alot of the pedestrians that got hit were probably the ones at fault.... Most of them are jaywalking, or crossing when they shouldn't. They got what was coming.

Now, for the drivers who crashed because they were obviously distracted or too incompetent, they should be shot.

Ridiculous.

I'm appalled, but can't say I'm surprised. Working in customer service, you painfully learn just how inattentive, unaware, and ignorant most people are. Not that we don't all have lapses of attention, but there are many people who seem to be walking around while only minimally conscious. Very little higher brain function.

And we give these people the privilege to drive? We're asking for it.

That's pretty harsh. Knocked to the ground and a skinned knee maybe.

I'm sure you didn't mean that in a literal sense, right? Just sayin'.

I'm sorry, but this thread should be yanked. This isn't break.com, this isn't fark.com. That video shows real people dying. Not pretend people in a movie. Those people are someone's wife, son, father, daughter, brother. And here we sit in our comfortable chairs and gasp and chuckle as they get turned into red goo.

There is something fundamentally wrong with someone who puts together a compilation video like that.

Hmmmm never seen the TV programs World's Scariest Drivers or Worlds Worst Drivers or Police Chases (may not be the actual titles)? There are a whole series of such shows on TV that highlight just how awful some motorists do drive.

Happened to notice one such show just last night on the Travel channel.

As the OP, I have to say that tj has a point. As I said in the warning, it's extremely graphic, but I probably should also have mentioned that it could induce PTSD in susceptible viewers.

I'll leave it up to the mods as to whether or not to pull the thread. That said, I don't think anyone in here has had a "chuckle" about this clip.

Well, I said they got what was eventually coming, not that they deserved it. If they regularly jaywalk, or are regularly unattentive and has a wandering mind all the time, then inevitably, its going to happen; just a matter of time.
